NYX

Nyx, the personification of the night

Nyx is the goddess of women who become productive primarily at night or out of the greatest chaos.

She was generally considered one of the mysterious primordial gods. Together with her husband Erebus she inhabited the dark corners of the underworld. As an extremely powerful being, she was even respected and feared by Zeus.

She was the daughter of Chaos and the mother of many important divine figures, including Hypnos (the god of sleep) and Thanatos (the god of death). Nyx ruled over the night and made sure it came every day, casting her veil of darkness over the world and lighting the sky with stars and the moon.

Your name and its meaning

The name “Nyx” comes from ancient Greek and simply means “night”.
The Nyx corresponds to the Roman "Nox".

Nyx and Zeus

Hera convinced Hypnos to put her husband Zeus to sleep while she plotted against him. However, Hypnos was not powerful enough to completely incapacitate Zeus, and upon finding out what Hypnos had done, Zeus chased after him.

Hypnos sought refuge in his mother's cave, and when he discovered the whereabouts of his prey, he gave up the hunt, as Zeus was wary of angering Nyx.

Silver egg in the lap of darkness

A silver egg was laid in the darkness by Nyx after she eventually turned away from her lonely existence in the chaotic void. First she brought forth Hemera, the day, Erebus, the darkness of the earth's depths, and Aither, the ether or wind.

After being fertilized by the Aether, she laid this silver egg into the womb of darkness. Inside the ice there was still urban chaos at the top, an empty space. Yet below existed “the Other,” which was Gaia, the Earth Goddess.
