Flora, the goddess of flowers, plants, blossoms, blooming nature and youth

In the ancient depiction, Flora is a young woman decorated with flowers and blossoms.
Originally Flora was the lovely Greek nymph Chloris, who was transformed into Flora by the west wind Zephyros.

The fairy goddess is playful, beautiful, young, cheerful, exuberant and sexually generous. But she is also self-determined, independent and cheeky and enjoys herself in her exuberant ecstasy.

Flora was particularly revered by the Sabines

From whom the goddess originally came before she was taken over by the Romans.
According to legend, Flora was brought to Rome by the Sabine king Titus Titanus, who built an altar for her. She was more revered in Rome than in any other place. It is said that her name is the secret name of the soul of Rome.

Flora had two temples in Rome, one on the Quirinal, the other near the Circus Maximus. The artists depicted the flora similar to a Greek spring shore, as a blooming, flower-adorned maiden.

She belongs to the group of vegetation gods, the gods of the earth and agriculture, and is related to Ceres, Demeter and Tellus. Flora was also the goddess of youth and joyful enjoyment of life, and ultimately also of pregnancy, whose symbol is the flower.

Their happy holidays were celebrated in the blossom moon

The Floralia, which were very popular not least because of their freedom of movement and their promiscuous customs. During parades, people decorated themselves with roses, there was singing and there were feasts with lots of wine and cheerful little plays. People gave each other medallions with erotic depictions and made love to other celebrants. Dancers took off their clothes while dancing on stage if the people requested it. Peas and beans were thrown among the people, and those who caught them were lucky all year round.

The sensual and pleasurable worship also had a sacred component, because without Flora's power there would be no life in the world. Even today, every sensual pleasure is a sacred act, a prayer to the goddess Flora.

Since the Renaissance and the associated rediscovery of antiquity, Flora experienced a new heyday and became even more popular and popular than it had ever been in Roman antiquity. The famous paintings by Rembrandt and Botticelli, as well as many sculptures, poems, a ballet and pieces of music come from this era.

In mythology she is the wife of Favonius

The god of wind, flowers and plants. But she also appears alongside Hercules. Flora is said to have fertilized the goddess Juno with a flower, which led to the birth of the god Mars.

Their plants include sweet peas, beans and lupins. She was honored with roses at the Rosalia on May 23rd. The rose was a typical flower of the dead in Roman antiquity, but was also considered a symbol of the cycle of nature, of death and new beginnings.
